In late 2014, for the first time, S.T. Dupont re-released a cult collection of natural lacquer lighters, an identical reproduction of old collections which also incorporated unique ancestral techniques and expertise, such as those used in its atelier in 1953. Only S.T. Dupont’s master lacquerers are able to transform the teardrops of a precious tree into the inalterable, glistening and deep-coloured material that is natural lacquer. To do so, they revived an age-old technique: the art of “Popoté”.This stage is deliberately but meticulously performed in an irregular manner to create the Maison’s characteristic cloudy effect. This year, S.T. Dupont Master Lacquer revived another and unique technique, more contemporary using graphic art: Sun Burst effect. This effect is performed with real graphic arts and variation of colours given by the precise hand gesture of Master lacquers.

Whilst the process is the same for each piece, the result is different every time. The contrasting colours obtained, together with the craftsmanship by hand, give every product its own character. The Atelier collections are stamped with the original S.T. Dupont logo and the winged wheel hallmark. The year “1953” is also inscribed on the products, in reference to when the lacquer atelier was first established.
